The Last Computer: Full Research Program — Architecture, Evidence, Economics, and Roadmap

SeekHigherThings Research

Abstract

The comprehensive research document covering the complete thesis: why the 80-year stored-program paradigm is ending, the four-layer architecture (Intent, World Model, State Store, Experience), evidence from GameNGen, DIAMOND, Genie 3, and Oasis, the hardware inflection with transformer ASICs, inference cost economics, six research pillars with gap analysis, market positioning, five-phase execution roadmap ($210-338M), and an honest risk assessment.

The Last Computer: A Paradigm Shift — From Stored Programs to Continuous AI Runtime

SeekHigherThings Research

Abstract

The $1 trillion software industry is built on an 80-year-old paradigm that is about to collapse. We present evidence from GameNGen, DIAMOND, Genie 3, and Oasis demonstrating that neural runtimes can replace stored programs. We propose a unified AI architecture — LLM state engine plus neural renderer — and define Phase 1 execution milestones for a text-conditioned real-time interactive demo achieving 20+ FPS with zero application code.

The Last Computer: A New Computational Paradigm Where AI Is the Software

SeekHigherThings Research

Abstract

We propose a fundamentally new computing architecture where a single AI world model serves as the operating system, application runtime, and user interface simultaneously. Rather than writing instructions for machines to execute, users state intent through natural conversation, and the system continuously generates interactive experiences in real time. We identify six core research pillars required to realize this vision and survey prior work demonstrating feasibility of key components.
